The silly season

So, it’s officially the silly season.  I love and hate this time of year.  I get very sentimental and cry at all the old Christmas specials.  I can’t watch Rudolph with my daughter, because I cry for all the misfit toys.  Who am I kidding?  The tears for me start when Santa shows up at the end of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, and reappear about every other day.
I think that if it weren’t for my kids, I wouldn’t do much for the holiday.  I’m not very religious, so it’s more of a Giftmas for me than anything else.  But, I do have kids, and so I try to make it good for them. This year, Kai got a puppy.  (Sean got one last year, so I am an equal opportunity crazy person)  She knows that was her big gift and that she won’t be getting much else, but I feel bad that she won’t have as much under the tree.  So, I’ve bought almost as much for her as I did for Sean.  I did do the same thing last year when he got his puppy, so I don’t feel too bad about it. I’ve finished shopping for my parents too.  But now the kids want to get gifts for their “significant others”.  Guess who’s money that comes from?  Yeah, mine.  Ugh.
I’m also tired of all the eating.  This week alone there have been five holiday parties.  And that’s in four days’ time.  There’s one more tomorrow.  They’re going to have to roll me out of the house on Christmas morning if this keeps up.
One thing that I am looking forward to is dinner with my friends (and kids) on December 23rd.  One of my really good friends from a long while back is coming to town for Christmas.  He came in for the Mid-Ohio
Comic Book Convention back in October, and several of us who had worked at the comic book store together hung out all day and had a really good time.  We are all getting together again for dinner and maybe a movie.  Kai has met all of them, but Sean was in the hospital at the time and didn’t get to meet them.  There’s already some silliness going on with all of us as to who is wearing (or not wearing) what to the restaurant and what R-rated movie we’re taking Kai to see.  Kai is looking forward to seeing everyone, except Bill, so it should be lots of fun.  Kai did tell me that if Bill persists in calling her Zelda, she’s going to demonstrate her wei-don-chugie on him…

So, I set up this blog a while ago, with no idea of what to do with it.  I have a friend who has a really funny blog, and thought maybe I could do that.  But, I’m not always funny.  At least, I’m not always funny to other people.
So, I thought maybe I could blog about my kids, and life as a single parent.  I know about that.
Or, I could blog about being a secretary in a crazy department at the hospital.  I know about that too.
Or, I could blog about the three wild Papillion puppies that we have and how they’re trying to take over the house.
Or my cooking misadventures.
So I guess I’ll just see what I have to write about when the time comes.
